New transparency in packaging recycling
(February 14, 2018) The Foundation Central Packaging Register should ensure greater transparency and control in packaging recycling.
With full entry into force of the new German Packaging Act (VerpackG) (with effect from 1 January 2019), the central office will be entrusted with sovereign functions to perform essential market surveillance functions, with regard to the obligations of dual systems and industry solutions, as well as the obligations of packaging producers.
Preparations to build a register of relevant information from companies have already started. The period until 1 January 2019 is used to build up the organization and infrastructure, necessary for the performance of their duties. The Foundation Central Packaging Register is based in Osnabrück. It's Board is the lawyer Gunda Rachut.
In addition to Executive Board the VerpackG provides following institutions: the Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors and the Advisory Council for Collection, Sorting and Recycling. With approval of the Board of Trustees expert groups will be set up by the Board to provide professional advice. For the implementation of § 21 VerpackG, the Expert Group III (design for recycling) should prepare the development of a minimum standard for the assessment of the recyclability of packaging subjects in dual systems, taking into account the individual recycling methods and the respective material type.
DAVR Managing Director Hans-Jürgen Schmidt is a member of the Board of Directors and Expert Group III.
An information movie (German language) shows the tasks and activities of the Foundation Central Packaging Register.
