Facts and statistics on aluminium packaging recycling
Packaging market and recycling data in Germany are measured by the GVM Gesellschaft für Verpackungsmarktforschung mbH, Mainz, on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency, and are submitted to the EU Commission for documentation on achieving the objectives of the European Packaging Directive.
Prior to the implementation of the countrywide collection of used packaging in yellow bins and bags, cans or menu trays were already collected by commercial and charitable initiatives, not least because of the high market value.
With the establishment of the countrywide collection system, the ambitious target of the Packaging Ordinance of 60% for aluminium packaging could be reached quickly and in the meantime significantly exceeded.
The recycling of aluminium packaging continues to develop at a very high level. In conjunction with significant market growth in recent years, the recycled quantity continues to grow to over 100,000 tonnes of aluminium packaging placed on the market. The recycling rate reached is a top value in Europe.
